Well hey, guys!

This isn't a good post for me to jump back into this blog. I've never had a spoink. I've never once thought about granting it box rot even, which is remarkable considering the kinds of Pokémon suffering said affliction right now. So that means, I'm going to have to rely on some old, trusted blog-filler tactics. I haven't been on Ominpelagos.com in a while, right? Let's see if we can break it.

Ribbon! Yes! Finally broke Omnipelagos.

Spoink related - There's some kind of website called spoink. I'm trying to figure out what exactly it's for, but I'm getting really lost. It's just got a bunch of networking, telecommunications and application packages flying around. It's driving me nuts... I can't physically put all the bad design and information together to tell you what the point of the site is.

More spoink related - Bulbapedia overthinks origins again by mentioning the possibility that "Spoink came from the Biblical phrase "do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet." The pearls were supposed to represent wisdom given to an audience who would not appreciate the teachings." I was thinking of going off on how dumb that sounds, but it could actually be true. I just never imagined the people designing Pokémon to do this much research for something that is ultimately a piglet on a spring with a ball on its head. Especially for gen 3.

Also, it's name in Korean translates to "pigjump". Nice.

#350 - Milotic

Hey guys, uh. So. Welcome to our newer blog? Why? Because adsense. I hate it when I write "Well it's been a while" but it's been a while because I just lost interest in Pokemon for a long time, then I was just over-worked and stressed, getting kind of depressed. Let's just say, bad film teacher experience, and doesn't everyone have Western society life just get to them? I mean, everybody strives for the same goal, everybody is pretty conformist to society and uniqueness is shunned, and it all comes down to making enough cash. Which is hard enough, because there are only so many jobs in Halifax, and of a certain type. There's also only a certain type of age group, body type, and uh sexual orientation if you're having problems with other things like I am. I made a silent promise to post less porn and talk less about sex, but it will be a matter of time. I also made a promise to try improve the quality of my scans because I realized my $10 scanner scans things extremely bright and half of my bad colour doesn't show up. :)

This looks like one of those fake evo things because I really, really failed at remember the colour. Then I coloured, and I realized Milotic is a red-head, which are apparently exotic and beauty and I really disagree. I don't like red hair. Milotic's is the beauty Pokemon, another Pokemon you get from a useless ugly fish like Magikarp. Who actually has done the routine, legitimately without cheating, and caught a Feebas? I did in Sapphire, and it took 5 hours to find it, fishing square by square. I have it burned into my mind which square it was in my game (it's random each game), sitting there late into the night fishing for this thing. Then I evolved it, and I stopped using this Pokemon because it felt too exotic and precious - almost like expensive jewelry you will never wear so you don't wreck it or lose it. Which defeats it being jewelry.

Milotic is known for being tender and peaceful, and brings peace to conflicts. It's also pretty good in battle and looks and sounds cool. I would get it in my SoulSilver game, maybe, one day... not any time soon.

Growlithe

Sunday, our class will have done three film shoots, including building elaborate sets. On the last shoot, Karolina is the production manager, so she's still quite busy. I'll throw in a growlithe because no one has posted here in a while, even though throwing has nothing to do with writing a blog post.

I like how this drawing has almost every possible way of failing with watercolour paint.

I know I've told this story before, but the only Pokémon cards I ever had were hand-me-downs from my cousin. One of the few that I did own was a growlithe, so naturally it was one of my favourites. I think it was quickly stolen by someone though; it went missing fast after I obtained it. POINT IS, I have a connection to growlithe.

Growlithe is also important because before I had a dog, I had a pretend growlithe (among other things). When you're homeschooled and forbidden from doing most natural, fun kid-things, the only thing you can really do is imagine up crap like that. I walked it around the Guild Inn park frequently (which at that time, to me, was Narnia) and made it spit an ass-load of fire at my sister as much as possible.

After a while, my mom got the hint, and began training my sisters and I so that one day we could take care of a dog. Oh boy, this is a great embarrassing kid story.

My parents bought us a robot dog. It kind of looked like those little annoying terrier toys with pink bows that would lurch forward a few inches and then do a back flip, but it was far more advanced. It was controlled by a "leash" (piece of cable) with a remote at the end, so you could control the dog's direction, make it bark or sit, while looking like a complete retard who takes robot dogs too seriously. Our mother would take us around the park or down the street with this thing, and every once in a while she would throw little pieces of paper behind the dog that were coloured yellow or brown (representing urine or poop, for those of you who are having a hard time following). We would have to react accordingly.

She even made us train the robot dog to do its business outside - for a month she'd walk around the house with that stupid robot dog, leaving pieces of paper everywhere. We'd have to shove the robot dog's face in the paper and scold it, then take it outside.

However annoying "Coco" the robot dog (yeah we really strained our noggins coming up with that name) was, my sisters and I were relentless with our dog-responsibility training, and eventually the exercises became unbearable for my mother, who had a bit of a breakdown and walked Coco into a deep puddle. This didn't ruin the robot dog, but it did give her a chance to pretend to rescue Coco, only to switch out the batteries. Shortly afterwards, we got a real, live dog.

My parents were either evil or geniuses.

Growlithe is adorable and evolves into something awesome, we all know this. What more can I say?

Gyarados

The "theme" for this image would have to be THIS, my official gyarados song. And sorry for lateness and such, but I had to time this for a birthday. And the ol' life is busy excuse...

It's been quite a while since I've drawn a Pokémon that I really like, and it is definitely the first time I've drawn one of my all-time three favourite Pokémon from kid-dom, when having a favourite Pokémon seemed really important.

Every single mother loving Pokémon game I've ever played, as soon as I could hold a rod, I would catch a magikarp. And I would train it hardcore. That's the only way to do it, guys. You have to put care, time, faith and love into raising a strong, fierce gyarados. Don't ever forget the love.

The first Pokémon episode was amazing. When Ash was underwater, I was terrified. When the gyarados charged him, I may have even shit myself. Between Creature from the Black Lagoon and Pokémon, I can't imagine I will ever be able to get in a large body of water.

From that episode, and that gyarados appearance, I was stunned. Gyarados was hardly well introduced at that point, but it's size and ferocity intrigued me. I had to watch every episode, because I had to find out more about these rare (to me, back then) and formidable creatures. I think that's a pretty common theme between my three favourite Pokémon (gyarados, gengar, and kabutops) - rarity, mysery, and coolness/badassness.

Pokémon like gyarados also made me feel really goddam safe as a Canadian, or even just a non-fictional human, because you can't compare it to anything that exists on Earth. While some kids would have romanticized living in Kanto, Gotham, or Elwood City, I could only dwell on the negative aspects of residing in one of those fictional realms.

1) KANTO - I liked Pokémon. But I also liked school and learning things. I definitely wasn't going to run away at 10 years old chasing giant, rampaging sea monsters or flying god-creatures, travelling through a massive region by myself. You're supposed to risk your life alone, travelling city to city, to battle bitchy adults and sketchy trainers with your little pets? The closest I can think of getting to this scenario is if I told my fat-ass cat to attack the thugs who hang out in the alley beside my building. There is (I am not fucking joking) a guy out there who calls himself The Hammer, because he spent 20-something years in jail for beating in a guy's skull with a hammer. It's like Gotham City out there.

2) GOTHAM CITY - The only reason I would ever play with the idea of living in Gotham City is so that I could be goddam Robin. But lets at least try to be the smallest bit realistic - I would not cut it as Robin. And if I could, I would not be able to cut it with two dead circus parents. Although - the Batcave, Wayne Manor, training with Batman, everything about Batman going right down to the bat thermos - would probably make up for it. My god, I'm convincing myself this is a good idea. ANYWAY

I would not cut it as Robin. So that scenario dashed, the only thing worth living in Gotham would be to see Batman (or Zatanna, Creeper etc.) running around - but my family just would not cut it in Gotham City. Assuming my overly-Mediterranean family didn't have strong ties to some crime element, I can't see that we'd live in any area far from fifty "Hammers" outside our door at any given moment. This would probably raise the chance of some nearby Batman activity, but what are the chances I would get to see this happening? Living in Gotham City would be like the three main residences of my life being moulded into one: Toronto - Canada's largest, poorly planned city; Lindsay - small town, teen-pregnancy capital of Ontario full of brain-damaged white trash c**-dumpsters, and Halifax Nova Scotia - boasting a pretty high crime rate itself. I kinda set that up as a joke, but it's not really. Just facts. Living in Gotham City is not ideal.

3) ELWOOD CITY - I only wrote down Elwood City because three is a comfortable list number, and I get OCD about things like that. It's also the only other fictional city from my childhood I could recall. As good a city as it was, and as much as I would have loved to be an animal-person-thing when I was a kid, the chance of being in third grade with Mr. Ratburn for 10 years is too high. I wouldn't risk it.

In honour not only of gyarados getting posted, but the birthday of two of my best friends, I will give you my favourite search terms that brought people to this site in the last few days!

Chansey

Sooooo... Chansey. I think I used to like this Pokemon when I was a kid, but now I find it kind of excessive and obnoxious. It like.. resembles a personality type I don't like. I don't know what you'd call it, but it usually results in the person becoming fat and round like that, lazier than possible, and fully into pursuing eternal comfort. There are many people of this type in the world, a lot of them living in 9-5 jobs, complaining they aren't paid enough when they have an excess of EVERYTHING that they somehow could afford to buy, hardly ever leaving their house except on generic vacations, and being surprised someone out there doesn't like watching TV. They're very content with the work they do and don't like things to change too much. I'm generally the opposite.. I get bored really easy once I figure out a schematic behind something, I don't need much money to live, and I like to travel and experience real things. I find TV usually boring as fuck because there is a formula behind each episode, it's usually really predictable, and not very often anymore are there well written shows.

That has little to do with actual Chansey. I can't say much once again, because Chansey is a Pokemon I never used. Ever. Somehow. In a decade + of Pokemon existing and playing ALL the games, never have I used Chansey. Chansey creeps me out. It's huge, extremely jovial, PINK, and it's all about EGGS. Eggs are gross.

However, once when I was young, I saw an episode of Magic Schoolbus about how eggs grow into chicks. I thought, because eggs need mostly warmth to grow, I could put one in a tight blanket, hide it in my huge bookshelf cabinet in my former bedroom, and wait for it to incubate in the coziness. As I am typing, I realize I am lying, because I actually learned this in kindergarten in Poland, and I remembered it while watching that episode, and once again, now. What ended up happening was my mother and grandmother finding it, getting mad about wasting/spoiling eggs, and revealing the harsh fact to me that the eggs we eat from the grocery store are mostly sterile. On one side, that's kind of sad, but on the other, we're not eating babies.

Chinchou

Chinchou.

Quite obviously based on an anglerfish, I decided this was the best way to go for a sketch. Sorry the colouring couldn't be watercolours at that time. This is the last marker one.

I like the concept of chinchou and lanturn, but I can't say I fancy the design all that much. They could stand for a bit more effort.

I've also NEVER caught or used a chinchou. One of the things I like about this blog is that I draw a Pokémon I never gave a thought to before, but it makes me want to check it out. Then I quickly stop caring all over again.

As for chinchou banter, I had imagined a name like chinchou to be pretty popular for naming Chinese babies. I was kind of right. It's also the name of a province, Jinzhou. I wish I knew what it means, but I just know that zhou means province, and that Jin is a girl's name that means gold. Maybe that's what it means.

When I said I was "kind of right" that Chinchou was a popular Chinese name, I meant that it certainly appears all over the internet, but in no extraordinary places. I'll show you the most interesting chinchous I could find.

Of course, chinchou, the Pokémon version of these people, is Japanese. The name is apparently related to the Japanese word for lantern, and/or a breed of fish swimming around in that ocean over there.

As far as Pokéworld goes, chinchou are pretty remarkable. They can walk on land and communicate underwater by flashing the lights on their antennae. In high-school, a friend and I worked out a system of morse code by blinking our eyes across class rooms. Blinking the left eye equals a long dash, and blinking the right eye translates to a short dash. It's basically the same thing.

One last thing before links: One of chinchou's Mystery Dungeon phrases is "Want me to light you up from behind?" I won't be too juvenile about that, but instantly it reminds me of every single blue angel story and joke I've heard in my life.

GENERAL:

Note: For some reason, wordpress got messed up and post-dated my last post to August 2. If you haven't seen it yet, there's a post on Butterfree further down the main blog page. Yes, I am too lazy to give you a link.

Maybe when school starts, and I'm forced back into my deadly-busy lifestyle, I'll write more post as an anxiety treatment for sitting still and not doing anything for more than 1.2 seconds. But, I love elephants. They're gorgeous intelligent animals, and huge and awesome. I love these animals, except for things like this:

When I was a kid, my mom gave me this tiny, literally like 1cmx1cm ceramic, purple elephant. She told me it's very important, so I began to imagine that this little elephant had supernatural properties that would give me good luck. I would look at it, and cherish it whenever I felt I needed that extra push to get through something. I used to hide it inside a pillow... because I had little pillow-friends when I was a kid. It's a by-product of being poor and not having enough likable stuffed animals. Unfortunately, I lost this elephant, and I still hurt inside from this heartbreaking loss.

Drifloon

Another poorly coloured drawing. But I think the concept is hilarious.

Among the group of people I talk to about Pokémon, I found that drifloon is commonly accepted as being cute. Which I won't dispute, but what most people don't realize is that drifloon is a maniacal little child abducter (and presumably killer as well).

Our North American censored pokedex entries mention children going missing by accidentally grabbing one, thinking it is a balloon, or some kind of abduction along those lines. However, in the Japanese Diamond pokedex and the Brawltrophies it says that these children are brought to the underworld. Whether this just means that drifloon is like some kind of grim reaper or a serial killer Pokémon is not certain, but it does make me uneasy about why it would be one of the few Pokémon allowed in Amity Square.

I never liked the lady at the desk who tells you (rudely, I thought) that you can't go in without a cute-looking Pokémon. Considering this information about drifloon, I always imagined some kind of child snatching conspiracy going in Amity Square. Also, the fact that compulsive liar Mr. Backlot - owner of the trophy garden - owns Amity Square furthers my conspiracy theory. What exactly is going on in his garden anyway? Where does the butler go to snatch those exotic Pokémon for you to catch? Is it related to the drifloon Amity Square scare? This is a mystery that has and will continue occupying my thoughts when I have nothing else more important to think about. If anyone else can shed light or a ridiculous theory on this subject, I'd love to hear it.

Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog. Anyone else see it?

The idea was for us to take turns posting but KarS is busy and I think we've not posted in a very long time. So lets get these out of the way - for a while I only used my markers.

So this yellow thing around buizel's neck always confused me. I used to think it was just something to do with littering, and how it particularly can affect water-dwelling animals, but that's pretty far off. One day I was actually bothered to check the Pokédex entry and figure out that it was some kind of 'flotation device' so it can float on the water and look for prey.

I know that this is just a show. But it bothers me that evolution would be kind to an animal that lives and hunts in water by using a collar that inflates so it can bob around the water's surface "hunting" prey. If this is hard for anyone else to imagine, just picture your dog (or that fucking shi-poo we all see everywhere) in one of those dog life-jackets floating pathetically in the middle of a lake, dog-paddling like my cat does. Then count how many fish the dog catches.

I've seen many otters in my lifetime, and none of them would find a tube necklace to be in any way convenient.

I'm not putting down the Pokémon, I just feel sorry for buizel for having to deal with such a stupid accessory. Otters are so playful and sneaky, I can't imagine how horribly that stupid thing would affect an otter's nature. I've had many good kayak/canoe trips where I find out I'm being followed carefully by a curious otter and would hate to have seen one just bobbing behind me as if it's mother put it in the collar for safety.

SEGUE

There are some motherly groups (what the hell does that even mean) pushing for laws protecting their children when they toboggan. They demand helmets. Helmets for kids tobogganing.

When I was a kid I learned what was dangerous by trial and error, not by learning to be scared of everything - including tobogganing down a wet, cushioned hill. I also don't think it would be that good at protecting from serious injury - the only one I ever heard of was one of my teachers' kids sledding into a tree, with her foot caught between tree and the weight of the person behind her. The leg was shattered and nearly amputated. I can't imagine where a helmet would've helped the situation. Also, what kind of helmet would tobogganing kids be wearing? Bike helmets are made to withstand one spill, and generally break on impact. Hockey helmets, however, cradle the head by cupping at the back, as their primary function is to protect against concussions (LAWLS one of sister has had at least six) and absorb hits (LAWLS effective, no?). I am certain this type of helmet would be preferred for making kids miserable in a sled. How cool would we all have looked wearing dad's Jofa bucket while flying down a hill on a crazy carpet?

Butterfree

Butter has about 100 calories per tablespoon. Some people eat butter by the spoon, some people get finicky and think they're really losing a lot of calories with their philly cheese; when in reality, philly cheese is less fat but more crap your body can't digest, and stores in your fat anyway. A lot of fat people trying to lose weight by relying on weight loss ingredients that are packed with unnatural chemicals that our bodies aren't designed to digest, and store as toxins. It's ironic and sad, because you're either just fat, or your toxic and fat. If you're offended by me saying fat, I am refering to anyone who would be offended because they subconsciously identify as being so, and to those that seriously think these kinds of diets work. The best diet is to have a happy brain and to exercise, in my educated opinion. This is what I think of when I think of Butterfree, which is a real weird name.

Ever summer about the same things happen: I am to make a lot of artwork, I get distracted with something far more mediocre (my boring job), and end up spending the summer doing leisurely things that I otherwise can't do. Like fail at making friendship bracelets. Actually, I did quite a lot this summer, but it wasn't making art. I got one painting started and it's getting there. I haven't knitted anything of my own, I've definitely neglected this blog and my website. I generally haven't been doing much on my computer because I have to sit and be generally bored with working anyway.

So far I haven't said anything actually related to Butterfree. I prefer Beedrill over Butterfree. It's fun to use either one in the older games when you could still cause several status problems at the same time, and just watch the rival wither and die from your stunning, poisoning, and leeching of life. However, I'm sure like most people, I didn't really use these Pokemon beyond the first 2 badges, because bug types aren't very tough and generally less exciting at that point of the game. I love battling on that's high leveled, and actually intimidating in a later battle though.

I've decided I've been too harsh on Pokémon and the links I've found in the past. What business is it of mine to impose my views and general negative thinking on a beloved childhood franchise, and put down the work of others just because it really isn't good at all? Their efforts weren't to please me, it was for their own pleasure to draw some anatomically-hilarious porn of their favourite ground-type and then post it on deviantart. And as for the Pokémon I so quickly attack in my personal opinions, what about the people out there who disagree? Am I doing anyone a service by angrily ranting about their design or stats when it opposes their beloved reverence for their favourite Pokémon? No I am not.

It is no longer fair for me to infect this blog with the negativity of my boring, sickly, University-loathing life. This isn't just a blog where people getting to rant about whatever they want without social consequences. It's that, plus Pokémon. So I've decided to try a new approach:

Zangoose is cool. It looks like it could be a recognizable beast, so it plays to that area of Pokémon acceptance. It also has a pretty good story with seviper (whom I prefer but will keep to myself) which calls to mind the relationship between cobra and mongoose. I've been trying to think of some way of cleverly mentioning Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, but the chances of that happening smoothly in the next 15 minutes are slim as are most people being able to understand what I'm talking about. So I will spare you a painfully long block of text about Rudyard Kipling and my childhood of reading classic literature for kicks! See how well this is going?

Seviper and zangoose can breed, by the way. I guess it's kind of like a Montague and Capulet scenario that Ash would've had to read and painfully over-analyze if he had gone to high-school.

That went well! The hard part will be omitting negativity in the linkage area.

Aerodactyl

Why would I procrastinate on posting this? This is a Pokemon that's actually cool! Despite it's looks almost like Charizard if he went rock solid and wasn't a knock-off dragon. I've been having Pokemon withdrawal. If you play the game for more than a year straight and then have to be interested in the characters, it's kind of hard. I'm not the type that gets interested in a show or game or comic and becomes obsessed with it for a while. I used to be like that when I was younger, but not anymore... because to me, entertainment and media are just entertainment and media. I'm also generally a pretty huge emo and I just lose interest in everything.

Anyway, AERODACTYL. Very archaic sounding name. Aerodactyl is revived from an Old Amber, which kinda like how they did it in Jurassic Park. It's also significant for the Old Man gliche, where naming your character with certain letters in place in the name causes the old man to show you how to catch a fucked up Kabutops or Aerodactyl skeleton. I'm sure those skeletons are exclusively in the game for that reason, but it'd be neat if you could encounter for a different reason (and catch them).

This brings me to two things. 1) How is Aerodactyl still made out of rock when it's revived? That would imply even a live, prehistoric Aerodactyl is a flying fossil - but whatever. 2) Things in Pokemon don't make sense, so why not design a cool skeleton Pokemon?

Aerodactyl is an unfortunate Pokemon in the sense that it appears too late in the game for you to want to incorporate it into your team. However, in HGSS, you can find one in the Ruins as a fossil and revive it. I'm actually confused about the Ruins and didn't get very far in them (I feel stupid, because I hear it's easy), so I don't have one yet. It'd be cool to find the fossil early in the game and always have this kickass rock Pokemon on your team... otherwise, it just looks like a lumpy brute dragon..

Obviously, there's a lot of attempts of illustrating this guy. It's a tough Pokemon because you're not sure if its huge chin is a result of a bad combination of pixels in the old fashion dot matrix screen of a Gameboy...

Espeon

I'm posting today too, I just feel like it.

Espeon is one of my favourite eevee evolutions (the the other is vaporeon). But that's kind of like saying I have a favourite Naruto character - it isn't real, doesn't affect my life, and in the end is kind of disappointing. The only difference here being that I hate Naruto and at least eevee's evolutions are part of franchise I like. But really... does any one still use any of them? I love the design, the idea, and they were certainly impressive back when there was only 1 gen to fuss about, but as much as I try using or revering them, they disappoint me.

I like espeon because I have a hard time liking any psychic types, mostly because of their design. But I definitely like the design of espeon.

I hope people disagree with me and do use/love eevee's evolutions, because (for the most part) I think they are appealing in the design department.

I like reading tidbits (thats right I said tidbits. I always will) about the Pokémon that unfortunately don't come into play in the games. Bulbapedia says espeon can predict an opponent's movements by reading the air currents.

Espeon also has some neat origin histories (assuming the creators actually had them in mind when making espeon). A bakeneko, the supposed inspiration behind espeon, is a Japanese ghost-cat whose tail may fork in two (then called a nekomata). It haunts houses and does ghostly things. Legend warns against leaving one in a room with a corpse - would you like your deceased loved-one reanimated by an espeon?

Seeing as how Karolina got to post something completely unrelated (and didn't even spend a few minutes coming up with a segue), I feel like sharing with you the 'tidbit' that filled my daily dose of nerd for the day. Torres has a tattoo of his first name in tengwar script on his left arm - congratulations on the Cup today, Tolkien nerds are proud.

ESPEON IN BREASTS

Everything is so vile about this, but the clouds are hilarious.
When I see an image like this, I always look straight for the hands, to see how badly the artist attempted them.
This espeon has to hold up her breasts with her hands all the time. Finally, a realistic portrayal.

I was going to post Mewtwo on my birthday and make an awesome, epic post.. but that didn't happen because I was on a vacation and was in a very 'fuck everything' state, and realized I didn't even draw Mewtwo yet. So, Mewtwo's gonna wait. I gotta post something, so here's a regular old, nobody-cares-for Pokemon.. Snorunt. I should redeem myself by saying something valuable about this guy, but I honestly never caught one despite really wanting a Froslass. I'm not one for ice-types. I'm also in withdrawal from Pokemon - not so interested, and too busy doing various orders, work, and my boyfriend.

As you may have guessed, there isn't much fan art for Snorunt, nor many links that could possibly be making fun of it or some other form of human hostile affection. But I drew it.. there it is.. in my memory, I recalled it as something that looked like a tacky Mexican decoration/teepee.

Here's a video of how to raise a teepee in 1 minute. Wouldn't it be great if your house was that portable?.. It would be for me.

Sorry for the delay in any posting. I flew to my former Ontario home for a visit, and I was too lazy to download the stuff for their scanner so I can use it with my laptop. But I did bring all my stuff for drawing for this blog, so stuff will get done now that I bothered myself to scan things.

This is a Pokémon I became interested in not too long ago, after not knowing or caring much about it. I think it's an interesting design and type. So I've been training one recently, out of curiosity, and so far it's been a blast. It's fun to play with.

I also think I should draw more Pokémon as dinosaurs. I think this is only... the second?

It's been a while since I've shared some of the search terms wordpress gives us on the stats page. Through breloom link searching, I found a video of a fan-made fighting game called "Pokemon Type Wild". Despite being tagged as "fan-made", it looks pretty addictive and the animation is good. I read quickly on a forum that it was made by a Pokémon animator/clean-up artist. The graphics and all that are pretty decent. You don't have to bother watching the whole thing. I haven't bothered looking for a link to download the game.

Roserade

Roserade looks a lot better to me in the actual artwork. I don't know. For some reason, I never looked it up because I just deemed it lame looking, and my memorized image is pretty much an interpretation of what it looks like based on my opinion of the game sprite. It also just gets annoying encountering it so often, and with so many trainers. That is one thing I really didn't like about P/D/P: every trainer has the same kinds of Pokemon. How lame! I miss from the old game how cool it was to battle someone, because there was a high percentage of chance that it would be something new and a new experience. Especially with Team Rocket; now it's like.. every member has a Golbat, instead of some cool Pokemon they stole from someone. My favourite place to battle in the old games was always the S.S. Ship - lots of sailors with different Pokemon. That's how it should be. There's going to be 500+ Pokemon, and you somehow run into the same thing all the time?

Because of this irritation, I never gave Roserade a chance. I probably won't, because I'm not a big fan of Grass types.. it's not my style of execution. I like brutal and fast, not so much 1 Million Papercuts of Death by Flower Petal type of attacks. It's a good Pokemon, but I am in love with my Meganium right now.

I managed to sit through this whole thing, so I'm gonna deem it decent? This song sucks by my tastes, but the cuts are alright for the amount of material this person seemed to have. Shitty video quality alert.

Here's something lame! I guess this person thought having their camera out of focus hides the obviously pre-traced pencil drawing underneath? Really bad colouring at the end. Takes them forever.. don't hurt yourself watching the whole thing. I'm not making fun of someone's drawing skills, because I do these drawings in about that amount of time and don't do this badly, but the fact they make a shitty video with a shitty song as if they're something. I'm so cold.

Hippowdon

It seems I've been drawing too many Pokémon lately that I like. Sometimes, I have nothing bad to say, so I have nothing to say at all. Anyone else get in those ruts? This kind of rut, when applied to myself, also comes with insanity. I'll try to keep as much out as possible.

So I'll start with research. And not just the same old Bulbapedia, Marriland, Smogon etc. research you usually get of me. There must be other resources written by dedicated Pokémon researchers, right?

I expect you all to use the resources I'm about to show to you for your own, independent Pokémon interests.

Metang's Dungeon Pokedex

This helpful site gives us all the basics of the Pokémon I am researching. It shows it's evo chain, what level it evolves at, height, weight, type, ability, and gender ratio. It also includes an original digital rendering of hippowdon, which looks as though it may have come from memory (or Tracey Sketchit). However, it would have been more helpful to have an image of hippowdon's entire body.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any information regarding the authorship or date of material. On the home page, there is a "Thank you for visiting." sentiment, signed "Tangy", or "Metang".

Pokémon Paradijs

Here we have what appears to be a more detailed source than Metang's Dungeon, but most of the information is in a foreign language - and one that google chrome cannot identify. My guess would have to be that this language is Skrull, and the website is just one of many attempts by the Skrull to infiltrate Earth. Or integrate, given that the language has been written in the Latin alphabet. Perhaps the Skrull are huge Pokémon fans (and fans of other anime kid-cartoons, as the site encompasses Sailor Moon, Digimon, etc.). It probably is a sign that all the Skrull want is to live among us.

There is some information in English that wasn't covered in Metang's Pokedex, which would be moves hippowdon can learn by levelling up, TM and HM. There is also a page for contacting the editors and/or moderators of the website, but the only thing I can read in Skrull-ese is "oh $#!"

Sprite Database

This source provides anatomical reference of hippowdon in a cornucopia of positions and angles. It also includes images of hippopotas for a more complex artist's study. In addition to being a valuable artist aid, it serves as a tool to study some physiology of the Pokémon. Visible muscle structure, tooth and jaw shape, and many other observations from this source may help further our understanding of hippowdon, making this source a necessity.

I hope you enjoyed exploring those sources as much as I did!

One thing I didn't find too much or was fan art, or fan anything, for hippowdon, which shocked my soul in an alternate reality where I care about this passionately. So I'll share a link from a stock-pile I have of links that don't really have much to do with a single Pokémon, but ought to be shared nonetheless: election battle.

Tangrowth vs. Arnold

This is an uber bingo drawing failure, isn't it? Somehow I drew two sets of eyes, and realized it too late. Maybe drawing two right hands is understandible (been there done that), but this? Wtf. Plus, look how not-like-Tangrowth that is. It's more like if It from the Adam's Family went to college, dyed its' hair purple, and turned it into dreads.

Fortunately for me, this gives me the perfect opportunity to go off on an tangent because I've never had a Tangrowth, and have no experience to pass on to you. And, I just can't talk about it after that fail.

So, I was doing a Myers-Briggs personality test today - it's an official personality testing tool designed to put the theories on personality of Jung to use - go google it. I am an INTJ. So is my boyfriend. His birthday falls on the day that shares Arnold Schwarzenegger's birthday. Know what else? Arnold is an INTJ. And know what else? This is Tetris' most brilliant recent piece of art. That's me as Arnold by the way - not that I wanna make this blog personal. I'm just passing on the life lesson that everything revolves around Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Arnold is amazing.

Abomasnow

Where'd we go? We were moving into a new place, which takes a long time if all you got is a van and a lanky boy, and a lot of awkward furniture.

This is a Pokemon I never used, never even evolved, and was never attracted to. There are somethings we just don't like subjectively, and this is one for me. Although if I did use it, I would nickname is Obamasnow or Dave Middleton. You don't know Dave Middleton... it's an inside joke.

It's still a good Pokemon though. I like the ones that are a type they are powerful against at the same time. It's interesting. My favourite is Gastrodon.

I'm sure everyone agrees a better Shiny version of this Pokemon would be one that's red and white, and somehow Santa themed.

Froslass

Froslass is cool, I say. Glalie is such a stupid piece of bad design, but here we have an elegant, part ghost-type Pokémon with a goddamned bow and some speediness to boot. What happens with this Pokémon in my games is that I put a lot of effort into getting one, with the intention of using it, and never actually do.

Bulbapedia told me that froslass is most likely based on Yuki-onna, a lady Japanese ice-spirit. She floats across the snow leaving no footprints, a trait shared with froslass.

It's German name is frosdedje, and it's French name is momartik. Both are cooler than froslass. The English name comes from a combination of frost and lass. Once again, we are reminded that we are all too lucky to have avoided these kinds of people naming everything on the planet.

Sudowoodo

Let me immediately distract you as I have myself by clicking this. I usually wouldn't attract attention to something that pisses me off, because then I'm giving it more attention than it deserves, but WHAT THE FUCK. Okay. Imagine that same image, but change the apples to people, or anything else humanoid for the matter - not so interesting anymore? In fact, quite literal? To me, this is like this person couldn't be bothered to ask their friends to do some fake smiles and hold up a card, so they just got some apples - which works as a great kreative gimmick. They had to photograph it in a very generic, photo-clean way, so that we'd still have the capacity to conceive what they could possibly mean. This is what concept art is in 2010? Wow, we've really fallen in a pit after its peak in the 70's. Then I have to remind myself of the fact of life that dA is not meant to be taken seriously because it is populated by wannabes.

So, Sudowoodo. I was sounding it out, and its name sorta sounds like pseudo wood(o). False wood? The concept of Sudowoodo is kind of interesting. It plays with it being a statue, a stick bug, and a tree at the same time. It's definitely false wood because it is not a grass or even poison type, by a ground/rock. I remember playing the original Pokemon Silver, and being really confused on how to get Sudowoodo to move. I had the fuckin' water can, I knew where it was, but I just couldn't figure out how to water it..since I kept giving my water can to my Pokemon. I spent so much time, consulted my black poke-pal named Justin (lawals), and even read a gaming magazine. Then, Justin just did it for me because he got sick of me being so handicapped with ignorance, and I felt dumb. Wait.. that still happens in real life with my Justin now.

Sudowoodo, in my game at least, is great in the Pokeathlon. He runs pretty decently fast, he's got stamina, and he's powerful. It depends what you like to play though; I like Stamina/Speed/Power courses.

Suwo - baby Sudowoodo. Probably from the time when Bonsly didn't exist, in which case, this evo is way more awesome than Bonsly.

Neagaroono. Based off a bonsai tree. I like that it could evolve into a bonsai tree, but this is a bit uncreative design to me. I like the knee swirls though.

I was really upset when Ash had to give his krabby to Professor Oak. I felt really bad for all of his Pokémon that couldn't stay on his team all the time, although listening to Ash and Misty bicker was probably something no Pokémon ever missed. And now, years later, those feelings are long gone. The dozens of Pokémon rotting in boxes in my games are no concern of mine at all. I AM A MONSTER.

Kingler's attack stat is the highest of any water-type Pokémon (but the other stats stink) and krabby and kingler are far better than corphish and crawdaunt, so I've got some respect for these little guys.

I'm getting a lot of Spongebob results trying to find good krabby links, which I could talk about it an alternate reality where I actually watched that show. Not that I hated Spongebob Squarepants, I just never watched it. I had four-and-a-half television channels during the age that everyone got into that show.

Illustration: Weavile using Dark Pulse

Here is my post today.. not the regular thing. This is the Weavile drawing I was doing; I finally got off my butt and photographed it. This my Weavile from Platinum, named Kamila, using Dark Pulse.

For those that care about these kind of details (not me personally): This took about 7-8 hours, it's a little smaller than 11x14 because I had to trim it thanks to my cat's snacking. It's on bristol paper, done with watercolour, ink, Sharpies, gel pens, pencil, and sugar. (Sugar makes some of the marbling effect in the watercolour, because I for some reason, can't make salt do it.) The only thing I'm unhappy with about this is the type of hatching I did on my Weavile. I was too worried, and it's very systematic and unnatural...

If I can charge myself a somewhat fair amount of money, the original of this would then go for $90 - about $10/hr + materials. I can make much cheaper prints, if someone was seriously interested. You'd be helping me pay my massive medical bills.

(Insert a giant rant about cheap people that go to Walmart + prices of original art.)

I love bristol paper, just so everyone knows. If you make art, it's a great paper that takes a moderate amount of water while being flat, smooth paper unlike watercolour paper. It's also less expensive. I like it because I don't ever know what I'm really going to do in the end, and I usually end up using the wrong type of paper and making a worthless mess. This year was the year I realized how worthless any piece of art is if you make it with bad materials. It has to look presentable in the end, and last.

Now, if you noticed, there is a new link to a donations box. It's under my name because I have all this finance crap on the internet already going, but it will be split fairly between us two. Just like those comic book sites, we're taking donations for doing a request in return. Take it as a payment for an image, where you only pay a fraction and support us. Machamp

I had two choices: draw one of the most hideous Pokémon to ever have been created in a generic, painful pose, or draw one of the most hideous Pokémon to ever have been created break-dancing.

Am I the only person who has made fun of and hated this Pokémon since the moment my eyes were laid upon the ridiculous creature and up to now? I don't think so, because I have yet to talk to a person who believes otherwise. I also don't think machamp is one one of those Pokémon you can easily fence-sit. You either think machamp is stupid, or you are an elusive, almost mythical being who thinks machamp is the best Pokémon in the franchise. And if your brain is that damaged, you probably have 6 of them on your team.

Although I will admit, after admiring this picture for so long, I don't hate machamp anymore. I just make fun of them at every opportunity and think they are terrible.

If anyone demands reasons, I think the most basic one comes from when I first set eyes on machamp, machoke, and machop. I watched Pokémon because I wanted to pretend I was in that world, and that I had a little meowth or ponyta and even a chubby little gengar, not a caricature of wrestlers or body-builders. The way I saw it back then was that the people who designed Pokémon made two major mistakes with these guys: they didn't make them resemble an animal or anything cute, and they were making fun of all the Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and Van Damme movies I watched on television as a kid. The closest thing to Timecop in the Pokémon franchise is Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time. And the closest thing to the Governor of California in a hummer would be Officer Jenny on a scooter.

Do you really think one machamp could take out Team Rocket by himself? Is that really the kind of Pokémon that could sneak into Giovanni's HQ and walk back out with intestines trailing from the knife gripped in his blood-soaked fist? Machamp is to John James Rambo what MacGruber is to MacGyver, comedy, and entertainment. Now that I've got a jab at SNL in there, my rant is DONE.

Now, I know I used an SNL jab to end my rant before the links, but I'm afraid to say that searching for links dug up some images that reignited old fires. Or more accurately, sprayed WD-40 on a fire that was already there.

- At least the person responsible for this was already called out. I probably don't have to go on about how unoriginal it is to draw a connection between muscles and Arnold, so I'll save all my energy on the next two. (Also, bad photo manipulation.)

- This terrified me. Once again, we see poor photo manipulation skills: overly pixelated (which is unacceptable in this day and age) and it appears that the blasphemous character on the poster has had an accident with two red flower pots (which I can only assume was the Kelso variety of accident). I know this isn't machamp, but it proves that the Pokémon designers chose to spoof something specific, treating us like idiots who can't be interested in anything that doesn't echo a familiar pop culture symbol. So here we have one of those simple planks who feels it is necessary to further shove that violation of beloved entertainment down my throat, as if I didn't get it the first time.

- This is the cake-taker. On one hand, it isn't connecting machamp to a 'roided-up action star, but on the other less forgiving hand, it's bastardizing something just as bad, dare I say worse: Star Wars.

Right off the bat, I know I can't take this person seriously because he's referencing Revenge of the Sith. Also, I was initially unsure as to whether or not these were lightsabers because of the poor rendering of the handles. He goes on to say that A New Hope would be different, because they would've cast machamp as General Grievous, who would've been able to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi. Why? "Machamp have more strength...(than Grievous)", "He can use The Force", and "He can carry four colour Lightsaber at once , include Sith Lightsaber".

First of all, machamp has taken some pathetic losses (ex.: Ash's Snorlax). As much as Obi-Wan is a bit of a shit in that movie, he would easily defeat a machamp. Second rebuttal, he can't use the Force. The psychic (machamp weakness) properties of having such a high level of midi-chlorians would make him a useless piece of turd. Third, and this is the best, machamp have well-noted terrible dexterity. And anyone with basic, logicical knowledge of Star Wars knows that the double-ended lightsaber was another Lucas turd that doesn't make sense given the style of lightsaber combat (if you were fighting with one, you would either end up killing yourself from throwing that thing around with poor leverage because your hands are in an awkward position, or you would be extremely careful, making yourself vulnerable to DIE). So even if machamp isn't armed with Darth Maul's suicide lightsaber, the four lightsabers added to his poor dexterity would be a pathetic show to watch, almost as bad as Revenge of the Sith is in the first place.

The comment ends with "this doesn't mean we hate Grievous, instead General Grievous is our all time most favourite Star Wars character." Obviously, these kids are knobs and I never should have taken their ill-informed opinions so seriously. OH WELL

If anyone draws a machamp on P3X-888, I'll zat everyone I see for the next week. Twice.

Donphan

Donphan is a pretty awesome Pokemon. I love elephants. I gotta say, the shape of Donphan makes it look like it is not capable of very much movement. Donphan's main attack is rolling into a ball and rolling non-stop, destroying everything on a rampage. I'm kind of confused where the tusks come in there, but okay - Donphan's tusk are relevant to its rank in its herd. Obviously the bigger, the higher up.

I never really use Donphan in the game.. I wish I would, but it's not my type of Pokemon. I also just ruined a plastic spatula on the stove..again. And; about five seconds ago I received a phone call that went like this:

Automated voice: "HELLO. YOU HAVE WON $3412! PRESS 1 TO ACCEPT"

Me: Okay... *presses one*

(Hold music)

Man with heavy accent: "I am from some company I didn't understand the name of, are you 25?"

Me: (Confused).... HELLO?

Man: "Are you 25?"

Me: "No....."

Parasect

I'm going to start with an important search engine term update. I like to list some of the terms people search to visit our site, but within the last week, one term has been make the two of us particularly pleased.

(at least) 365 pokemon drawings

That's right! Someone(s) searched for this blog, specifically! Not for lucario ass, lucario penis, raichu vajina, golbat porn, king cheetah sex art, fuck yeah shiny bidoof (holy hell!), bestiality pokemon, fat misty, how to draw pokemon boob, and lucario porn script. They searched this blog.

I'm not such a big fan of the design for paras and parasect, but there isn't a whole mountain of interesting designs you can make for a creature that has some fun mushrooms growing on and out of it's body without making it hideous, scary, and too complicated for a game/tv show. As much as I am not a fan, the idea behind these Pokémon is another solid one, and there are some thoughts of interest I have concerning them.

Parasect needs a humid environment to live comfortably because how sun and dryness can negatively affect it's mushroom growth. I can only imagine how bad this Pokémon wreaks - it's basically a big pile of mould, stumbling around a cave, possessed by the amount of mushroom sucking the life from the poor insect. That would smell.
There is probably a pretty solid illegal trade of parasect mushrooms. I'm also pretty certain Giovanni has something to do with it. They probably breed tons of them in little cages, with barely any food or water, and harvest their mushrooms when they're x-years/levels old. And because of the level of care, the quality probably isn't that great. There will be a separate group of parasect mushroom harvesters who poach the wild ones, but because they have to compete with the prices of the warehouse-bred low quality ones, they resort to inhumane harvesting means, such as carving the mushrooms off of the living parasect (which may seriously injure or kill) with dull shears and over-poaching. But don't worry - there will always be a few humane breeders who carefully raise their parasect on organic feed, harvest the mushroom themselves with care for their parasect herd, and make sure they have wonderful, comfortable lives.
In Pokémon Adventures (which I haven't read), Crystal's parasect can use it's powder attacks to create different spores, such as one that can corrode metal. That would definitely be a frightening thing to come across - something that has been eerily corroded by an angry parasect (although docile, they will attack anything intruding on their territory). Even a golbat isn't as scary as walking through a cave and finding an onix corpse that has been Swiss cheese-ified by a tempermental parasect. In the bizarre Pokémon world in my head, this kind of parasect property is the basis for many campfire horror stories and has been used by horror-writer Kephen Sting, now an Orange Island recluse, for a novel which will soon be adapted to the big screen. The film is expected to be far greater than the actual book, as is customary with the rest of his work.

I'm not a great fan of parasect because I like the old sprites a lot better than what parasect game sprites look like now:

Red/Blue, Green, & Crystal vs. HS/SS. Just sayin'. There could be a lot more bad in that ass.

Gengar

This is a horrible fail that's hilariously beautiful. My Gengar story: I was playing Red, and back in the days when no one had real solid access to the Internet or knew how to use it, I would have to figure out how things work. I was also much more of a loner, and didn't really have friends to ask. I trained a Haunter to level 75 - yeah, 75, trying to make it evolve. It got to the point where gaining levels was just too painfully hard, so I quit, and eventually learned that Haunter needs to be traded with my lack of poke-friends. That was also in the day of the thick gameboy link wire.

That's not a very well told story, but I'm really tired okay.

Meowth

I hope many of you who are reading have seen the season one episode "Go West Young Meowth", which was the first tackle at the back-story of Team Rocket's meowth. To myself as a child, it was as moving as the episode where charizard starts listening to Ash. Meowzie is a bitch!

Of course, the stress and effort of teaching himself how to talk meant that Meowth had to give up being able to learn meowth's signature move, 'pay day'. I guess I should stop myself from going on and on about how strong the character in the show is, otherwise I'd be doing this for a long time.

As the species itself, I was drawn to meowth and persian because those were the first gen days and they were really appealing cat Pokémon, although their usefulness in the games isn't very appealing. Persian also physically resembled a mountain lion, which was my favourite animal for a very long time. I wrote so much poetry and short stories about cougars mauling deer, and gory graphite drawings... it was a huge contrast to the preceding horse-phase.

I was probably drawn from ponies to cougars because of the Kratt's Creatures show. They claimed the cats could jump something around 30 feet across and 15 feet straight up, which is pretty bad-ass. They were ranked by Chris and Martin as the third best jumpers in the world, after fleas and kangaroos! IN THE WORLD!

It is pretty great to think about right now the Pokémon world version of Kratt's Creatures. It sounds like something Brock would watch. Or the Zoboomafoo Pokémon show - Pokémon Junction!

Dunsparce

I love how I failed at remembering this. It makes me laugh endlessly. I also love my drawing fail... just so everybody knows, if they haven't noticed or read before, I'm so lazy I don't pencil the redrawn Pokemon in. I usually draw it right off an image from my computer from google, and sometimes it's a disaster. It makes me feel some guilt as to how bad it turns out, because I'm supposed to be really good at drawing all the time, right? (No.)

Who, out there, has seriously caught a Dunsparce and considered training it? Who keeps it in their team? For some reason, even though this Pokemon is interesting, it just doesn't strike me as anything like that. According to Bulbapedia, it doesn't learn any useful (or offensive enough for me) attacks till it learns Dig at lvl 45. Then, it learns Endeavor, and then.. it's final attack... is Flail. FLAIL. This is worse than Magikarp, because Magikarp learns useful attacks eventually, and evolves to something kickass.

I like this person's drawing, because I'd be more motivated by Dunsparce if it looked more like this, or evolved into something like Arbok from the desert. However, I don't mean this though - although it's quite hilarious.

Murkrow

Today, I decided to drag you right into the process of how these posts (mine at least) are created. I have taken a handful of process photographs to illustrate how the art and post comes to exist on this blog. Enjoy (or ignore).

Step one: Uninspired, I look to a random sprite generator to guide me in selecting a Pokémon to sketch. [link] I then may look for further reference pictures on google.
Step two: Gather ingredients. It is time to begin. [link]
Step threeve: Attend to child in need of attention. [link] Put on some tunes. [link] NOW it is time to begin.
Step four: Without thinking, start to draw a wing, tail, or in this case a head. [link] Realise I need to but at least some effort into this. [link] Begin again, sketching the shapes of the form of what I am going to draw. [link]
Step five: Draw the outline quickly, [link] because these aren't meant to take longer than ten minutes. Address some disastrous perspective anatomy problems. [link] Fix with another anatomy problem not as obvious because I don't care really. [link]
Step six: Dig for Faber-Castell pens 'B', 'F', and 'S'. [link]
Step seven: Go over contour with 'B' pen, then go over the main descriptive lines within the contour lines using the 'F' pen. [link] Make border with 'B' pen. Add details in areas such as feathers, fluff, and shading with 'S' pen.[link] Write name (murkrow in this case).
Step eight: Now for watercolour. [link] Mix colours and put a wash on all areas, adding if shading if I feel like it. I don't really have rules for this. [link] With more pigment, add layers of colour, building up volume or shadow or detail. [link] Let dry.
Step nine: Sneak into Karolina's room, or ask. Use scanner. [link]
Step ten: Tweak image in photoshop. [link] Save in "pokemnnonn" folder.
Step eleven: Do some research. Look for links that our readers are interested in. [link]
Step twelve: Upload image, write post. [link]

Twelve whole steps! The drawing itself takes 5-10 minutes, but the rest takes 15 minutes to 1 & 1/2 hours.

I like murkrow, but rather unfortunately I like misdreavus better. However, I do intend to train and evolve one in the near future.

They have a cool back-story and attributes: a kleptomaniac nature, being regarded as possessing and delivering bad luck, and the general appearance of a witch. They can be trained to learn words as well, and are attracted to shiny things. I'd rather own a murkrow or honchkrow than a chatot.

I mean, probably anyone could get a chatot. I imagine them being a pretty easy thing to get either legally or illegally in the Pokéworld pet trade. Or I guess the Pokémon trade, because pets are different, they actually exist. In the anime, there are birds chirping, a dog in one episode, and an old lady who makes 'muskrat meatballs' (although I don't care about this stuff being unexplained). But I do wonder how the business of capturing, transporting, and selling Pokémon works. I guess that's what Pokémon breeders do?

Give them away to ten-year-olds?

Eevee

I remember playing the first few games, and getting Eevee. It was such a magical and unpredictable moment. I was fascinated by how many evolutions it had (omg - 3!?! choices!?!), and then felt the heart aching disappointment of realizing I only have 1 Eevee and I could not get more. Then, you could breed them. I did once I figured out the perplexing trick with Ditto (I'll talk about this later some time), but training Eevee is not much fun - and it still isn't.

And then they came out with more evolutions. That was cool for a while, but now it's gotten to be like.. aggravating. Do you remember around 2000 when everything in terms of technology could suddenly be customized? Your Wordpress blog could have custom backgrounds and font, and you could change your Windows theme. How cool was it to not just use a factory default! I feel like now, in 2010, the craze and crave for customization has died. Too many options, too much freedom - we need some simplicity in terms of designs. Eevee kind of makes me feel like that.

On one hand though, I kind of always used to identifywith the idea of Eevee. Eevee is a boring, regular Pokemon that has the potential to hypothetically be anything. Eevee - the teenager Pokemon. Potential yet to be used. Eevee's cuteness, however, annoys me...

Gible

IT'S ROCK O'CLOCK

Gible through to garchomp was a great bunch of Pokémon to have. It was an honour to employ them on my team in Pearl. Fun to train and great to use to go barrelling through a route of trainers or grass. Gible, gabite, and garchomp were definitely a highlight of the fourth gen.

Gible are pretty strange little creatures. They love to wrestle each other, and when they bite with their big toothy face they end up hurting themselves. Especially with Ash's mentally-challenged gible, they come across as childish planks. This gives them an eerie human quality.

My thoughts towards where the name could come from are "I have no fucking clue". Bulbapedia gives us the combination of "ground" and "nibble" as the source of gible's name. I like to complain about the lack of creativity naming Pokémon, but there is the blinding fact that I would probably do much worse. Let's see what I can come up with.

Pohabm: plane on head and big mouth.

Libleak: little blue freak.

Humartis: some Latin shit.

Gerak: From Stargate. If all else fails I'll name something after a character from Stargate or Star Trek.

I'm not going to lie and say I tried particularly hard coming up with those, but I think I proved my point.

Mareep

Mareep is one of my favourites, too. I think it's a nice idea, and I think it makes sense that an animal with so much wool could be statically charged. What prevents that in real life is that sheep wool is covered in lanolin, which is a specific type of body oil it secretes that pretty much does the same thing as the oil in our hair except way better. It's sometimes somehow extracted (I don't wanna know..) and put into cosmetics, and it's something most knitters have to wash out of their wool. Usually it's chemically removed in some factory, but with real wool, has to be done by hand. It's also what makes wool extremely water resistant: I wear my pure Icelandic wool hats when it snows and sometimes in rain, and never get my head wet; the water sits on top of the wool in beads. Ninetales

You can tell I ran out of room in my sketchbook for the tail right? It's all bunched up. Haha.

Ninetales is no arcanine but it's still pretty amazing. I was looking through some nerd forums, in topics about which Pokémon is better. It mostly came down to personal opinion about which one would make a better pet.

Ninetales was always of interest to me as a child because of how it is based on a neat legend. The nine-tailed ancient fox that could create illusions and breath fire and had silver / gold hair. I tried to do more research about this but there were too many google results about Naruto, I had to stop.

Here's a great piece of art about the nine-tailed fox in which it appears the prince has some bone deformation that can't support his skin which is now folded into a melty mess.

Weavile

I did this sketch, and it made me feel so bad and guilty. I love Weavile, and I did this visual massacre to represent it? This was the bad 'art' that lead me to not drawing for a long time after in April. I must redeem myself.

I have a female Weavile in my Platinum version named Kamila. For some short amount of time, I was just making fun of my brother's name by conjugating it to be female - but it's actually a cool. I love Weavile because it's dark, super offensive, and super fast - all my favourite things. It also looks to me like some kind of Egyptian creature, except from Antarctica. I also like that it's named after a vermin you can find in your sack of flour, and how it screams when it comes out of the ball. It's one of the few newer Pokemon designs I'm genuinely impressed with. I think it's a great build up from Sneasel (which I also like).

So to redeem myself, I am drawing a GOOD drawing of my Weavile, Kamila, using the move Dark Pulse. It's kind of starting to look more like a blend of Dark Pulse, Omnious Wind, and Icy Wind at the same time.... I was going to take some process photos, but I work too fast and I get distracted by actually doing it - so that didn't really happen. Here's the only two I managed so far.

The pencil drawing took me longer because I was having too much fun drawing naked girls... So far it's only watercolour, ink, and sugar - which my cat had to taste as you might see... Also, SHITTYPHOTOGZATTACK.

Vigoroth

I've been doing this thing lately where I draw Pokémon I actually like, and I think it's really affecting the quality of the drawings (positively). Unfortunately I like this evolution better than slakoth or slaking. But slaking is quite alright.

What a character in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Some of the generic phrases various Pokémon in the game say are hilarious. When vigoroth levels up, the exclamation is "Leveled up! Yes! Watch how I can rampage now!" Because we all know that vigoroth's heart-beat is so fast it can't keep calm. It's a rampage machine.

Remember the game Rampage? The small Ontario town I spent some time growing up in had an ancient Midway arcade Rampage game in the community Recreation Complex. I could never figure it out. Growing up with hippie parents, the only game I was allowed playing was Reader Rabbit. And even then, we were only allowed an hour every day or so, supervised. Another "game" was to compose stories on the computer. I remember the first computer we had in the house, the only thing you could with it was play some kind of game about catching gnomes and running up a mountain (if anyone knows the name of this game, please tell me!) and sitting down at the computer table with dad and dictating stories. It was a special computer our friends lent us for my mother to make and print off anti-GMO or anti-pesticide pamphlets. Then we would run around GTA neighbourhoods with pamphlets packed in our red Fischer Price wagon.

We also had an 'Oregon Trail' class once a week in our elementary school. Anyway, Rampage. I could not figure out how this game worked because I was massively game deprived as a child. Sometimes I could play my cousins' Game Boys at holidays, but my parents would try to discourage it. I remember my mother getting upset at my uncle one year because he wanted to buy me a Game Boy for Christmas. He ended up getting me a Tamagochi.

I don't know if this tech ban was because of trends, but it could've been part of the reason. My mother was very much against buying into trends, so she was really cautious about my Pokémon phase. I wasn't allowed even buying cards, the only ones I had were hand-me-downs my cousin Alexander snuck me. To compensate for my limited access to the card game and the Game Boy games, I watched every single episode of the anime (up to the point that it started sucking miserably). See, this came back around to Pokémon.

I hope that didn't sound bitchy or whiney, 'cause a lot of people think that that part of my kid-dom was really weird and terrible, but really I don't mind it that much. Don't worry, I had a ton of other things to do. And it made me a good sneak.

Snubull

I figure I should read on Pokemon I have next to nothing to say about. Those are out there.. all 450+ can't be equally exciting or interesting. Did you know that Snubull's 'dress' is likely really saggy wrinkly skin hanging around its body? I didn't. That's really disgusting.

I didn't really think this thing is cute, but now I definitely don't. It reminds of those old grannies that want to pretend they're still young by cutting their hair short and dyeing it the same generic burgundy colour, then wearing tight or painfully colourful clothes to accent their usually fat bodies. You know what I'm talkin' about.

Sadly, my mom is on the path to fully becoming one of those little old ladies. My Snubull reminds me of her for some reason - mostly the face and she used to wear her hair that way last year the last time I saw her. I really hope I don't follow this path...but I don't think I will. I' m kind of different from my parents. Mostly a lot less conservative and comfort zone oriented. I don't think anyone in my family would be so into playing with a shotgun.

Lunatone

There isn't exactly a lot of room for artistic interpretation for this Pokémon. But you know what, it looks really great with a row of creepy, beady teeth.

I also always quite liked lunatone. They came from space in asteroids and then adapted to life on Earth by being able to read everyone's minds and getting all of it's power from moonlight.

I wonder if I could rip back-stories from Pokémon and adapt them to scripts. Some Pokémon have pretty great sci-fi back-stories. A group of aliens coming to Earth from asteroids and levitating by telekinesis or something adapted from the Clefairy dancing around Mt. Moon and evolving from moon stones - those could be great low-budget film-school disasters!

And I would like to know how being exposed to all the radiation from evolutionary stones doesn't give the Pokémon's trainer a cornucopia of creepy tumours. There are actually a ton of items I am skeptical about in the games and anime - I bet I'm allergic to them all.

Bellsprout

Hi, I came back too. Here's a Bellsprout, and here's an extra drawing from our Ugly Facebook of a Bellsprout for those who believed us when we said we'd come back in May. I know some people didn't because there's definitely a sudden loss of audience in the stat counter. The Ugly Facebook is a sketcbook we also have going in the Real World, where we draw faces of people (and now animals and Pokemon) as ugly as we can. We have other contributors, and it's pretty cool.

I think I drew this Pokemon because I thought it's easy to remember. I kind of like the idea of it, or at least better than Oddish or something. I ain't got much to say about Bellsprout. I trained mine to evolve, then I realized I need a leaf stone to get Victreebel, and mostly lost interest. On the other hand, I got to fake shoot the SWAT team and Police with a shotgun as an extra in a movie that will actually be in theatres. I'm daydreaming about getting a gun license because that shotgun was way too awesome.

Dragonair

I drew this quite a while ago actually, but could not find the time of compiling all these great links or writing about dragonair.

So, not exactly my favourite dragon Pokémon, but who isn't? If it's a dragon then I'm impressed. In fact, I like this evolution a lot more than dragonite.

I kind of imagine owning a dragonair would be like having a big blue pool-noodle to play with, except alive. And a dragon. My favourite pool noodle game was when you got one of the noodles with the holes, filled it with water, and then get a person on each end to blow as hard as possible into the noodle. The person who can't blow as hard or gives up will get their face blasted with water! So much fun, but not a game you could play with a dragonair-noodle. But I am sure other games, exclusive to the dragonair-noodle, could be just as enjoyable.

Johto Champions

That's right. The Johto champions.

Cefalino - From a name I made up when I was an Italian-speaking baby. I had hell training growlithe, but it paid off when it finally learned the moves I needed to throw a fire stone at it. There are few things greater than throwing an arcanine tank into a Pokémon battle. Well, actually, quite a few things. But within the realm of Pokémon battles, not a lot of things. But more than a few. Get it?
Two Sheds - That's right. I found a shiny golbat while I was training in a cave. And you know what? I caught it. And then, you know what? I trained it, and liked it quite a bit (some may recall my past shiny crobat post which I'm too lazy to link to). And yes, I brought it into some Elite Four battles.
Babar - Yeah, clever name. The same day I found caught the Two Sheds, Babar caught the Pokérus from a golbat! So that's how my opinion on that set of Pokés turned up. I hid Babar in this picture because I didn't feel like drawing Donphan again.
Lyra - I hate the bloody hat. I almost picked Ethan because of that hat.
Manganese - For some reason I named my mareep after a chemical element. There aren't a ton of electric Pokémon early in Heart Gold, or at all. But ampharos is pretty great.
Baby Eater - I really like misdreavus & mismagius. I nabbed 'im in the Safari Zone of course, and trained it easily, and breezed through some battles easily. And I named it Baby Eater.
Xerse - Every Pokémon game I play, as soon as possible, I catch a magikarp and train it without candies or daycare etc. Then I play the entire game with a sweet gyarados. The best Pokémon. Indeed.

This was just a quick sketch, the Pokémon I drew in it don't count as being 'done' as far as this blog, because they really aren't drawn that well. But hello, I'm back at least.

We just finished cleaning the last of the crap that was left in our apartment from a girl we let live here because her previous roommate was stabby. And of course, our deed is repaid by being confined to our rooms, getting lectured whenever we laugh, talk to each other, cook with oil, our cats play near her, talk to our parents in Ontario - and then she gets to cry on Skype to her boyfriend or parents in China every night at 2 am, waste hundreds of dollars of our food (included expensive food for my allergies), rearranging our apartment, and cooking/burning cabbage at least once a week. We also got to drag our uninspired, battered, zombie-art-school bodies through finals projects. Mainly, a creativity-murdering painting class.

I'm in second year university, and I just spent hundreds of dollars on a class that 'taught' me colour theory and still life painting with white & black paint . I was pretty sure at the end of that I would never draw or paint again as long as I lived. So I don't care/mind if people are upset over this being down for month, I just want to say I am glad to be able to do it again. To have the time, the desire, and ability to draw again.

But we do realize this break has come up against what we originally set out to do. Although that doesn't mean we can't complete it - we still (and have always) intend to post 365 Pokémon. This just means (obviously) that the blog won't end a year from now (which has already been stated). But we also intend to change the number of Pokémon we draw to the full four-hundred-and-ninety-whatever.

I will be posting a proper drawing later today. Maybe in an hour or two. We'll see.

DAY NINETY-FIVE - Shellder

This is another Pokemon that is hard to talk about. Part of the reason is that's it's under-rated. I have one, and I'd like a Cloyster, but it's like training a Growlithe. Gotta evolve it with a water stone, and what's the fun of using a clam? However, I read somewhere something interesting where someone said that Shellder and Cloyster are the underwater equivalent of Ghastly. I realized there are not too many (or maybe zero?) water/ghost types. Wouldn't those be cool? Why isn't there a Flying Dutchman Pokemon?

That's how I determined if it was under-rated. Even the most ambiguous Pokemon get boobs and vaginas attatched to them.

DAY NINETY-THREE - Poliwrath

I've been procrastinating on posting this because I am also feeling like I am running out of things to say. It's starting to feel as if this is the hardest part of all. Especially when I tried to be thoughtful about Poliwrath. I'm going to be honest and tell you this thing unmotivates me to this point. TO THE POINT OF NO END.

Poliwrath is a wannabe ninja turtle.

This is the only thing making me want to post a Poliwrath. I have no idea why I drew it.. it's causing me as much pain as going to the laundromat. I'm finally posting it because of peer pressure. Because someone out there will send a post card to PostSecret with a cut open wrist, some cut out letters, saying, "I couldn't wait any longer". I have to be considerate of the well being of absolute idiots; I know our normal audience is tough.

I have not bothered ever, in the decade of this game's existence, considered owning a Poli-anything. I probably caught some in Red to fill my Pokedex with a massive eye roll, or that may be the few still missing in it. That was back in the day of the big fat link wire and no friends who thought Pokemon was cool.

I may consider it on the behalf of a Politoed. It's kind of cute.

DAY NINETY-TWO - Metagross

Sometimes for these drawings I really like to challenge myself. I like to take a pointless and ugly Pokémon that I hate to draw. For goodness sakes, its got hammer arms and a big ridiculous "X" on it's senseless face. So I gave it a puppy face, to tone it down. Make it easier on the eye-bulbs.

I can't say much on this guy other than I hate metagross, it's an idiotic design that no one would ever love.

From Bulbapedia, explaining the name: "It may also be derived from the words metal and gross, referring to its size." OR maybe it's derived from it being gross. Gross = to hideous, ugly, etc. I wonder if anyone will get really upset because they love this thing? Sorry.

Listen to these voice actors for the Pokémon... ridiculous. I couldn't find a video with metagross from the anime, but I really didn't try that hard, and I'm pretty proud.

DAY NINETY-ONE - Salamence

Bagon was a bugger to train but Salamence is pretty neat.

I always thought about how a lot of the flying Pokémon would actually never be able to fly because most of them are so large, and rarely even aerodynamic or less... meaty. Salamence reminds me a lot of komodo dragons - a big heap of scaly meat crawling around and looking badass and lazy at the same time.

I'm running out of things to say about Pokémon I don't know all that well, and there aren't going to be a ton of links because Karolina posted all the good ones already.
